Victor Valance (Yves Montand), an absent father who likes to gamble, returns home in order to take money from his family and gamble with it. His daughter Pauline (Isabelle Adjani) is suspicious of her father's activities and messes up his plans. When she realizes however, that gangsters are trying to rob her father, her attitude changes.
